What Made Me
WHAT MADE ME was first designed for the Birmingham Made Me Design Expo in 2012, created to provide an interactive experience for all visitors. Through a visual system that uses colour, line and grid composition, the project explored what shapes the people of Birmingham by asking participants what made them Think, Create, Angry, Happy and Change. Each question was assigned to a different yarn colour and was answered by connecting relevant words together, displayed on the board in alphabetical order. Over the course of the week, a multi-layered, visual data map has been created, concluding the Birmingham Made Me Design Expo and receiving The Most Original Exhibit Award 2012. This art installation is a well sought-after, award winning interactive piece. It has drawn attention from all over the world and has been commissioned multiple times by high profile clients in the UK and Europe, including TEDx, BP, Tent Rotterdam and Idea Birmingham amongst others. It was published twice by Sandu Publishing in Infographics - Designing & Visualizing Data and Playful Graphics. It has also grown in popularity online, attracting over 30,000 of monthly impressions on Pinterest.
